Geetanjoli Sari Fashion, an Indian soft goods store selling scarves, belly dancer outfits, jewelry and clothing, will be opening on the second floor of Calhoun Square. The approximately 1,034 square foot store will be located above Sox Appeal on the second floor near the escalators.

This store will be the third location for Geetanjoli Sari Fashion, which tarted in 2006 in Midtown Global Market. The company specializes in hand embroidered clothing. The Uptown store will feature high-end jewelry with exotic stones and jewels worn in traditional Indian ceremonies and festivities.

Owner, Mary Kumar, stated that “the spaciousness of our new store will allow us to really display and demonstrate our intricate hand stitched beaded clothing lines for men, women and children.”

The store will open at the end of October 2010.

I’m really excited about this store — not that I’m in the market for high-end jewelry or a kurti at the moment, but this kind of independent, local store represents all that I like and want to see in Uptown.
