Update (December 2, 2010): The project has been renamed 1800 Lake, according to an email from the developer today. The name, based on the project’s address, is a common style of naming of classy buildings in other cities like New York, according to the email.

The Lake & Knox Apartments, located just northeast of the Lake Calhoun Refectory and across Lake Street from the Edgewater Condominiums, will start noticeable construction this Tuesday, December 1, with the demolition of the existing five structures, according to Dan Oberpriller of CPM Development. Site preparation work started recently but the project closed on its financing earlier in November and is now ready to get going. After demolition, excavation for the underground parking garage will begin. Oberpriller believes that in March or April, the building should emerge from the ground.

The new building, which will be home to a small amount of retail and office space as well as 57 apartment units, will be completed in fall 2011.

See our previous article on the project for additional details.
