This Uptown apartment building goes green with both a compost bin and a clothesline out back. What other sorts of environmentally-friendly initiatives have you seen in the neighborhood?

Solhem, a new construction building at Holmes and Lake, features a number of ‘green’ initiatives. They have organics recycling, rainwater collection, and many more sustainable building practices/fixtures/equipment.

Here’s what my 4-unit building @22nd and Dupont offers:

    -the electricity is wind-powered
    -all appliances are EnergyStar
-well insulated walls, efficient boiler, retrofitted/replaced windows (the building uses a total of 35kBtu/sf2/year)
    -composting & recycling
-native and edible (yes – you can eat it) landscaping
    -a rain garden
    -the building is non-smoking
    -it’s on 4 bus lines
-with secure covered bike parking and racks
-there’s organic gardening space available in the summer if you want
    -green management/resident tips newsletters
-backyard patio, which by the end of the summer will offer a clothes line, more fruit trees, and more garden space as well as community-building space

Mom and Pop landlords can do it, too.

Janne, your place may be one of the greenest. Love it.

I just read an article from a few months ago in the Southwest Journal entitled Cherrypicking from past plans to create a vision for Uptown. I just wanted to add I hope the plan includes recycling and organics composting at restaurants, etc. Seeing your April 27th comment, it looks like you are on board when greening neigborhoods. Thanks for your work on Uptown area.
