Question of the Week: Favorite Playground?
Community, Featured — By Cedar Phillips on June 14, 2011 1:09 amDo you have a favorite playground in Uptown? What makes it special? What would you like to see added? What are your favorite local playground memories, whether from years past or from just last week? How often do you visit local playgrounds?

The Tot Lot by Lake Calhoun is a favorite (my son especially likes the sand scoops), but I also really like the more neighborhood feel of Mueller Park. Actually, there isn’t a local park that I DON’T like! I do wish there were more “pocket parks,” though; perhaps a small play area adjacent to the new Walker Library, for example? Or a small play area somewhere else near the core of Uptown? Maybe a small play area tucked in the walking space outside of Calhoun Square or the new projects along the Greenway?
Forgot to add that the mini-playground on the Loring Greenway is one of my favorite local examples of what I’d like to see in the commercial core of Uptown. Lyn-Lake is lucky that Bryant Square is literally right around the corner, but the Hennepin-Lake portion of Uptown could use something in the immediate area, too. Nothing big required; maybe something climbable could also double as public art.
I’d like to see the Mall area really enhanced into an area more like the Loring Greenway, with different “Character” areas with a little playground, seating plazas, a fountain, etc.
I really enjoy Mueller Park as well, mainly because it has the more shaded section by the houses that has picnic tables, the basketball court, plaza area, and pool all in one area, etc. Very nice park to do a lot of different things depending on your mood and without having a lot of space to do it. I stop many times on the way back from Downtown on my bike ride and break there.
triangle park. hands-down. I hope they never “update” it
outside of Uptown, I like Brackett Park as well.
