Do you ride the bus to or from Uptown? Which routes do you ride most often? Do you have a favorite route? Least favorite?

I take most of them very frequently. I don’t have a car at the moment, so I depend on the bus. The limited stop 12 routes to downtown are my favorite, because you can get on at the transit station and get downtown pretty quickly.

The 4 is our regular route, but while my husband was contemplating taking a job out in Minnetonka we were thrilled to discover that, while limited, the 12 heading out that direction DOES make it possible to live in Uptown (without car) and still have a relatively easy commute to the office parks out that direction. Not nearly as easy or pleasant as working in Uptown or downtown, but better than nothing!

I take the 53 to work every day and the 6 downtown quite often. I love the existence of the 53, since taking a 21 all to way to DT St Paul would be excruciating. This way I have one bus to work at normal cost, instead of transferring to a 94 downtown.

I have used just about every Uptown area bus route regularly at some point or another. My favorite is probably the 21 because it is just so interesting. My least favorite is the 17 because it seems to always be super late. Since I moved downtown I have started catching the 6 more than ever before, and I am really disappointed with the way the frequency plummets on weekends.

I take the #4 most often. It is usually on-time and there are a few seats available even during peak hours. It seems that every stop going northbound on Lyndale has a shelter, althout the privately-owned ones (CBS Outdoor) are not maintained at all. Some of them are quite hideous, I would go as far as describing them as blight. The problems with the Hennepin/Lyndale running routes is downtown. There are way too many stops downtown. The stops should be placed every other block at most, since the blocks are shorter downtown. Also, the curb lanes on Hennepin are in terrible condition (especially southbound) and make for an unpleasant ride.

    • Thatcher Imboden says:

I would add that there are far too many stops in general. I always liked the 12 for the limited stops. I wish Metro Transit would eliminate the Southbound 6/23/114 stop on Hennepin between Lagoon and Lake as well as the northbound stop on the other side that serves the 12/17. While we’re at it, might as well remove both stops at 28th Street. They all just consume valuable time and are under a block from the Uptown Transit Station.

Now that I live south of Uptown, I rarely use the bike because I’d have to take the 4, 21, and 17/12 to get to the work on the NW corner of Lake Calhoun or take 2 buses and walk a mile. So I switched to biking everywhere because I couldn’t stand late and slow buses.

I take the 6 downtown quite frequently. I work up in Fridley though so I unfortunately do not bus up to work.

The 17 takes me from my neighborhood over by Nicollet and Franklin right into Uptown! love it! (I just wish the southwest light rail would have come through here.)
