Historic Photo of the Week: Whittier Play Room

Featured, History — By on September 23, 2013 6:21 am

While not generally considered within Uptown, located at Blaisdell and 26th Street the Whittier School served children who did live in areas that today would be greater Uptown. The play room at Whittier had quite the set up. Many dolls can be seen sitting in chairs or laying in a bed, with a fireplace and a tea set as added fun. Year unknown. How cities work and change, how they are the product of their inhabitants and outside forces, and the resulting livability keep me thinking and dreaming about the future. I work in transit oriented development and have a background in urban real estate development. I am Past President of an Uptown business organization, grew up in Uptown, was on an Uptown neighborhood association Board, and am an Uptown and Lyn-Lake historian.

Just spent a good 45 minutes on all the vintage Uptown pictures. Love them. Keep them coming. By the way, I just located a nice Super 8 of me and my family at the 1973(?) Uptown Art Fair. I’ll have to send a DVD your way.
